Members of Rajya Sabha are elected by the elected members of the State Legislative Assemblies in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote. has to be approved by both Houses of Parliament within a stipulated period.

The Rajya Sabha is the upper House of the Indian Parliament. The Indian constitution has provided for a federal set up and as such as the upper house has been made to represent the states. All states don't send the equal no. of representatives to the Rajya Sabha. In fact, the states are represented on the basis of their population as specified in the Fourth Schedule of the constitution.
