Structure of RNA[edit] Each nucleotide in RNA contains a ribose sugar, with carbons numbered 1' through 5'. A base is attached to the 1' position, in general, adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G), or uracil (U). Adenine and guanine are purines, cytosine, and uracil are pyrimidines.

Functions of RNA are

1.Ribosomal RNA (rRNA) is part of the ribosome, or protein builders, of the cell. 2.Ribosomes are responsible for translation, or the process our cells use to make proteins.

There are 4 types of RNA

Messenger RNA: Encodes amino acid sequence of a polypeptide. tRNA - Transfer RNA: Brings amino acids to ribosomes during translation. rRNA - Ribosomal RNA: With ribosomal proteins, makes up the ribosomes, the organelles that translate the mRNA.
