Explain the structure of a soap molecule why do soaps not form lather why is hard water without water

Lather is made when alkali reacts with fatty acids. hardness of water is due to Ca and Mg ions present in it. When soap is to it Ca and Mg ions replaces Na (or K)ions of salt and gets precipitated. Hence, lather is not formed.
