Structure and role of t-RNA

Structure of t-RNA

  • The t-RNA resembles a clover-leaf in its appearance.
  • It has following loops:
  1. Anti-codon loop
  2. Variable loop
  3. D- loop
  • Apart from loops it is composed of amino acid acceptor end at the top. Kindly refer to the attachment for the structure of t-RNA.

Role in translation:

  • The general job of tRNA in translation is to decode a particular codon of mRNA, utilizing its anti codon, so as to move a particular amino acid as far as possible of a chain in the ribosome.
  • Numerous tRNA's together expand upon the amino acid chain, in the long run making a protein for the first mRNA strand.
