France under the Ancien Regime (before the French Revolution) divided society into three estates: the First Estate (clergy); the Second Estate (nobility); and the Third Estate (commoners). The king was considered part of no estate.

There were three estates before the French Revolution:
First Estate-This estate includes nobility and aristocracy. They were exempted from paying taxes to government. They enjoyed many rights and privileges.
Second Estate- This estate includes clergy.Like 1st estate they were last exempted from paying any type of tax to state.
Third Estate-This include common or poor people. This part of France need more attention but instead of any privilege all the taxes like Tailie or Tithes were supposed to get payed by this part. This lead to Revolt in France.
