Bagging is the covering of emasculated female flower by butter-paper or polythene.
The floral buds of the male parents are also bagged.
The bagging is one of the essential technique to prevent the stigma of female emasculated flower from contamination with unwanted pollen. If the stigma gets undesirable pollen grains from air or if desired pollens used in breeding program are contaminated with undesirable pollens, the very purpose of hybridisation will be defeated.
