Peptization is the process responsible for the formation of stable dispersion of colloidal particles in dispersion medium. In other words it may be defined as a process of converting a precipitate into colloidal sol by shaking it with dispersion medium in the presence of small amount of electrolyte.

It is defined as the process of changing a precipitate into colloidal solution by vibrate it with expansion medium in the presence of a low mass of electrolyte. The electrolyte which is used for this reason is called peptizing agent. It is the method which applied on mostly in to change a freshly ready precipitate into colloidal solution.

  • For example :- clay is generally fall out in water and they forming a precipitate while we use the sodium carbonate(Na2CO3) as a agent clay can be form a colloid with water .
