In the arid and semi-arid regions of
Rajasthan, tankas are underground
tanks that are used to store water. It is a
form of rainwater harvesting. The
rainwater is collected on rooftops and,
with the help of pipes, it is allowed to
flow into the underground tanks. Each
tanka could be as big as the size of a
room. The water is stored for long
periods and mainly used as drinking
water.
