work is said to be done when some force is applied on the bidy and body covers a displacement in the same direction as that of the applied force.

Work is said to be done when a force displace an object in the direction of force or in the direction of component of force.

both force and displacement are vector quantities and work is a scalear quantity

Hence he know that only the dot product of two vectors comes scalear.
