Explain the terms Liberty, Equality and Fraternity of French Revolution.

Liberty........ It means all people have freedom of speech about what they want. No one can force them to speak what others want.

Equality....... Treating boys and girls equally.

Fraternity...... It means brotherhood. All people are brother and sister.

Liberty Equality Fraternity is the logo of french revolution and is an example of tripartite motto

1. Liberty

  • Liberty is defined as the ability to do anything that does not harm others
  • Thus, the exercise of a man's or woman's natural rights has no bounds other than those that ensure the enjoyment of these same rights by other members of society.

2. Equality

  • To the French revolutionaries, the most important part of the slogan was equality, or the abolition of privilege.
  • They were willing to give up their political liberty for equality.

3. Fraternity

  • The word fraternity is best translated as "brotherhood."
  • Fraternity implied that the citizens of the country were united in solidarity.
  • It combined patriotism with compassion for one's fellow citizens.
