This means that mass and energy are the same physical unit and can be converted to each other. In this equation, the increase in the relativistic mass (m) of an object multiplied by the square of the speed of light (c2) is equal to the kinetic energy (E) of this object. The energy of a stationary object is determined to be mc2. Therefore, every object with a rest mass m mc2 has "rest energy", which could be used for conversion to other forms of energy. The relationship between mass and energy also means that when energy is released from the body as a result of such a transformation, the remaining mass of the body is reduced.
