The three factors crucial in determining politics and social division are as follows   :-

  • How people look their identity :-

The perception of people's identity matter a lot. if People look themselves as singular then it is very hard to accommodate the various identities of a people in a single country but if people consider themselves as a whole then it becomes easier for the country's government to accommodate the diversity.

It is evident from the example of Northern Ireland and Netherland

in Northern Ireland people consider themselves as catholics and protestants and not the citizen of Northern Ireland ,Thus, it is very difficult to live in northern Ireland being a citizen of northern ireland because people consider themselves as either catholics and protestant.

but in Netherlands people are better called as the citizens of Netherland and  not as catholics and protestants .

  • how political leaders raise the demand of a particular community

It completely depends on the political leaders whether to raise a particular demand of a community or to raise the demand of all the people as a whole. if political leaders raise the demand which are constitutional,It becomes easier for the government to ensure equality and to accept that proposal.

  • how government reacts to the demand of people

It also depends on the government to maintain the integrity of the country, if government tries to suppress the demands particular community then it creates a very bad situation in a country and the integrity of the country can be threatened.

we can see the situation to be similar with Sri Lanka where the Sinhalas try to supress the demand of the tamils. All the laws favour the sinhala community and the tamils feel alienated. The civil war broke into sri lanka which has threatened its integrity.

Thus,

It is necessary for the government to protect people and ensure equality.

Following are the three factors that decide the result of the politics of social groups:

1. People’s perception: if people perceive their identities in uncommon and restricted ways, it will commence to public divisions and disorder. It becomes easier if people perceive their identities are multiple and are equal with the national integrity

2. Raising of demands by political leaders: it is another important factor that decides the outcome of politics of social divisions, for instance, if the political leaders representing any community made demands that come under the legal framework and does not affect another community.

3. The reaction of Government: if the demands raised by the political leaders affect the benefits of other communities and the government has to suppress it, then it can cause social division.
