The main hormone produced by the thyroid gland, acting to increase metabolic rate and so regulating growth and development is called thyroxine gland.

Describe its features:

⚫The thyroid gland is the largest endocrine gland.

⚫It plays an important role in the metabolism of the body.

⚫Thyroid is located in the throat region. It is a bilobed gland.

⚫The hormones secreted by thyroid gland are: thyroxine & calcitonin.

⚫Thyroxine increases the rate of metabolic reaction in the body. It regulates the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.It provides the best balance for the growth of the body.
