Explanation:
Long Bones:- These bones are longer then they are wide. Both tips of the bones are covered with cartilage for shock absorption. Bones of the limbs are long bones. These bones provide strength structure and mobility to our body as they are hard and dense.
Short Bones:- These bones are as long as they are wide. They are square shaped bones. The bones of the wrist and foot are short bones. These bones provide support and stability with little or no movement.
Flat Bones:- These are thin flat bones. Bones present in the breast and hip are flat bones. These bones protect soft tissues and also provide border surface for muscular attachment. These bones can be found at almost all joints and help to modify pressure to reduce friction ,and change the direction of the muscles.
Sesamoid Bones:- These are short bones. imbedded in the tendons. Tendons consists of thick fabric tissues with joint the bones with the muscles . The patella or kneecap is a example of sesamoid bones.
Irregular Bones:- The bones which cannot be categorised as long ,short, flat or sesamoid bones are called irregular bones. The bones in the spinal cord are irregular bones. These bones protect in nervous tissue.
