As a metal, copper came in use of man much earlier than iron. Copper has been used for making utensils and coins since long. Being a good conductor of electricity and ductile, it is extensively used in a vast variety of electrical machinery, wires and cables.
India is not very lucky regarding reserves and production of copper. Her total reserves in situ are estimated at about 712.5 million tonnes equivalent to 9.4 million tonnes of metal content.
