Heavy water is used in nuclear reactors as a moderator in certain nuclear reactors to slow down the speed of neutrons for the bombardment of Uranium- 235.

The uses of heavy water are ;-   1) Heavy water is used as a moderator in nuclear reaction involving the fission of uranium, where it slows down the speed of neutron ejected in the fission process. 2) It is used as a tracer in the study of reactions occurring in living organisms. 3)It is also used for preparation of deuterium
