Why do summers zoom by and winter drag on forever?

It really does seem that the part of the year that we enjoy the most goes by all too quickly while winter seems to drag on forever. Actually winter conditions do last longer then the 2 to 3 months of summer that we receive in Canada every year. Summer may be longer than that further south in the USA but the colder winter conditions still last longer then the summer heat and sunshine.
