Radioactive isotopes have a variety of applications. Generally, however, they are useful either because we can detect their radioactivity or we can use the energy they release. Radioactive isotopes are effective tracers because their radioactivity is easy to detect.

In auto radiography, the radioisotopes are used as tracers to detect the distribution and localization of antibodies in cancer. There are some  radioisotopes that  are used in various medical treatment, for eg- Iron-59 is a type of radioisotopes that are used in anemia diagnosis, iodine- 131 is used in diagnosis and treatment of thyroid function, gold-198 is used in liver disease diagnosis.
