Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting is a technique of rain runoff conservation through rooftops of the buildings. The runoff can be diverted to either in water tank / pond on ground for conservation of rain runoff during monsoon and using it for various purposes except for drinking purposes. The runoff from the rooftops can be first collected in a pit at ground-level and after filtration through wire-mesh & filter (zone of sand & gravel) can be diverted to bore well for recharging underground aquifers.
Rooftop rainwater harvesting has two advantages viz i) it can be implemented by the owners of the building themselves with minor modifications in drainage pipe systems and by constructing a small pit on ground which can be filled with layers of gravel, pebbles, sand and charcoal for filtration of runoff prior to diverting to bore well ( also called recharge well : here instead of pumping underground water, filtered roof rain runoff is diverted to recharge underground aquifer) or dug well.
No complicated technology is involved in implementing rooftop rainwater harvesting which can be DIY. In absence of bore well, shallow depth shaft can be dug & filled with gravel, sand & pebbles to make good filter zone; and runoff can be diverted in pit for natural infiltrations with gravity force.

Rainwater Harvesting➫ The technique used to store rainwater by making water harvesting structure to recharge the underground water resource.
♦ It is one of the methods that can be used for water conservation.
♦ It can be a paved area like the terrace or courtyard of a building.
♦ If we are to have a sustainable future, then rainwater harvesting is going to have to become an important part of our life.
♦ The catchment of a water Harvesting system is the surface which directly receives the rainfall and provides water to the system.

❱ Direct Pumped
❱ Indirect Pumped
❱ Indirect Gravity
➧ It comprises components of various stages:-

❱ Transporting Rainwater through pipes or drains.
❱ Filtration.
❱ storage in tanks for reuse or recharge.
➧ How is the Rainwater Harvesting Done:-
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=⤵
❱ By taking rooftop rainwater directly into the ground by drain pipes, dug well or Sunk for water pump.
❱ By taking rain water directly into pond & tanks.
❱ By making percolation tanks, well, deep pits or trenches in the path of rainwater.
➧ Advantages of Rainwater Harvesting are:-
