WHEN A BULLET IS FIRED FROM A GUN ,THE GUN MOVES BACKWARDS,OPPOSITE TO THE DIRECTION OF MOTION OF THE BULLET.
THIS MOVEMENT OF THE GUN BACKWARDS IS CALLED RECOIL OF THE GUN.THE VELOCITY IN WHICH IT MOVES BACK IS CALLED RECOIL VELOCITY OF THE GUN.
BEFORE FIRING THE BULLET ,THE GUN AND THE BULLET ARE AT REST.SO THE MOMENTUM IS ZERO.THEREFORE AFTER FIRING THE MOMENTUM THE BULLET AND THE GUN MOVES WITH EQUAL MOMENTUM.

actually its gun's recoiling velocity. according to conservation of momentum the velocity at which the bullet leaves the gun the recoil velocity will be equal to the velocity of bullet.
Acco. to this law the total momentum will remain conserved
