Gradation is a process whereby the surface of the land is reduced to an even plain known as grade, higher areas are worn down and depressions are filled. Coastal areas are a great example of the process known as gradation. Our study site Lowlands is a beach located on the south western coast of Australia about 30kms or half and hours drive from Albany. Lowlands beach is an example of the most common coastal landscape, the cliffed coastline of headlands and bays.

Graduation is the manner of carrying Earth's surface into one general level, it is certainly the method of leveling land by the method of weathering and erosion.
Two essential components in the method of gradation are:
1. Degradation- Which is the method by which elevated parts of the earth's surface is reduced. It is the way of straightening down the elevated portion of the surface by the manner of erosion, weathering, etc.
2. Aggradation- In this manner lower parts of the earth's exterior, that is depression in earth's surface are loaded up. It is the way of leveling up by manner of deposition of eroded substance.
