SONAR stands for SOund Navigation And Ranging.

Working of SONAR:-

It is a device that uses ultrasonic waves to measure the distance , direction and speed of underwater objects.
The transmitter produces and transmits ultrasonic waves. These waves travel through water and after striking the object on the seabed, get reflected back and are sensed by the detector. The detector converts the ultrasonic waves into electrical signals which are appropriately interpreted.

Application of SONAR:-

• Detecting & tracking submarines, ships, etc.

• Mapping the ocean floor.

• Detecting under-water mines.

Working of a SONAR:

• A SONAR system is introduced in ships or boats to inspect underwater objects.
• A SONAR comprises a transmitter and a receiver.
• The transmitter used in SONAR generates powerful ultrasonic waves and these strong ultrasonic waves travel through the water and gets reflected by the object.
• These reflected ultrasounds entered the receiver of a SONAR which then restored into electrical signals.
• These electrical signals are then analyzed.
