The word 'SONAR' stands for 'SOund Navigation And Ranging'..
Sonar is a Apparatus or device which is used to find the depth of a sea or to locate underwater things like shoals of fish , Ship wrecks & Enemy submarines.
Working of SONAR:
Sonar works by sending short bursts of ultrasonic sound from a ship down into sea water and then picking up the echo produced by the reflection of ultrasonic sound from underwater objects like bottom of sea , shoal of fish, Shipwreck or a submarine. The time taken for the Echo to return to the ship is measured by the Sonar apparatus.
Half of this time gives the time taken by the ultrasonic sound to travel from the ship to the bottom of the sea.
Application of SONAR:
1.To find what lies beneath the Ship, boat or a submarine.
2.It has been used to discover shipwrecks lost Treasures sunken features e.t.c
3.It is used to detect the presence of enemies ships by military...

Answer: Sonar is the short form of sound navigation and ranging
Sonar work on the principle of finding time taken by ultrasonic sound to travel back to the ship after hitting the target it given by the t = 2d / V
when we is the velocity of wave in media and a d is the distance of the object from the sheep it has a transmitter and recive to send and area we recive ultrasonic waves.
Applications
To determine the depth of sea and to locate underwater hills ,valleys and ships
Hope it help you please mark as brilliant
