It is a device installed in Ships or Submarine to detect the depth of Sea , Sunken ships , Sea Shoals , Undereater objects and obstacles etc...
This device works on principle of reflection of Ultrasonic sound waves( Sound waves having frequency higher than 20000 Hz or 20 Khz.)
Sonar works as follows :
There is a transmitter which emits these waves.
These waves travel in water and when it strikes the obstacles it gets reflected back.Further these waves received by Receiver..
The time interval of transimission and reception is being recorded by this device...Speed of ultrasonic waves is also known to this Same...and finally the distance of obstacle is being calculated as
Speed = Distance / Time
Distance = Speed X Time..
