electric motor works on the principle that is when electric current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field it experiences a force
ABCD is a coil place inside the magnetic field and when current is passed from it a b moves downward and CD moves upward you can find direction of this moment with the help of the left hand rule and again the commutator reverses the direction of current show the cycle completes a b moves upward and CD moves downward and so one complete round is completed.
