Correct answer:-
- A bell works with the principle of working of electromagnetism.
- When the switch is pushed on, the circuit gets completed and the current starts flowing through the U-shaped electromagnet which creates a magnetic field in the core. This attracts the iron armature.
- When the armature moves towards the electromagnet, the hammer strikes the gong and the bell rings.
- As the armature moves towards the electromagnet, the contact with the adjustment screw breaks which breaks the closed circuit and stops the current. Now, when there is no current there is no electromagnetism and the armature returns to the original position. This making and breaking of the circuit of the electromagnet continue as long as the button remains pressed.

Answer:
Working of an Electric Bell -
- When you press the switch, the electic circuit of the bell is completed and current passes through the coil of the electromagnet and it gets magnetised. The electomagnet attracts the armature towards itself, the hammer attached to it strikes the gong and produces a sound.
- When the armature moves towards the magnet, its contact with the contact screw is broken. Due to this, the electic circuit breaks and no current flows in the electomagnet coil. The electromagnet loses its magnetism and the armature is no longer attracted by it. The spring brings back the armature to its original position and the hammer moves away from the gong.
- As soon as the armature comes back and touches the contact screw, the circuit is complete and current starts flowing in the electromagnet coil again. The process of ‘makeand break’ of the electric circuit occurs when you press the switch. Thus, the hammer strikes the gong rapidly producing almost continous sounds and the bell rings.
