a pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens but without a lens but with the tiny aperture, a simple pinhole-effectively a light proof box with a small hole in one side. light from a scene passes through the aperture and projects and inverted image on the opposite side of the box, which is known as the camera obscura effect.

☆ Working of the pinhole camera ☆
Place a luminous object such as a lighted candle AB in front of the pinhole camera. You would get an inverted picture of the candle A' B' on the tracing paper. This is called an image. This image is upside down or inverted because light travels in a straight line. The light from the upper point A of the candle passes through the pinhole and strikes the tracing paper at A'.
Similarly, the light from the lower point B of the candle passes through the pinhole and it right the tracing paper at B'. The light from all other points between A and B on passing through the pinhole strike the tracing paper in between A' and B'. As a result, an inverted image of the candle is seen on the tracing paper.
