The theorem say the “product of the means” = “product of the extremes”, which is the same as cross multiplication of the N1 and D2 on opposite sides of the = sign to the N2 and D1 on the opposite side.

Example: 3:5::18:y. To find out y, you write

3*y = 5*18, or

y = 5*18/3 = 30.

You can write the equal ratios now, as 3:5::18:30. Check 3*30 = 90 same as 5*18 = 90.
