These lines are from the poem ancient mariner.It means that God was punishing ancient mariner for the bad thing he did.All the sea had dried and there was no water. It seemed to be the worst situation ever. Some strange insects started coming out on their ship.It was a very horrible condition.

This lines are from the chapter ancient mariner. As we know the Mariners ship came to standstill and that too in the hot equatorial region. From these lines the Mariner means that the ocean was seem to be rotting, they were praying to God that save them from this horrible situation, the animals in the sea looked like slimy things that are crawling in the slimy glue like sea. This para shows the sense of helplessness of the Mariners.
