The three distinct modes of heat transfer are :-

•Conduction= The process by which heat is transferred between one body to another without the movement of the body.

•Convection= The process by which heat is transferred from one body to another by the actual movement of molecules in the body.

•Radiation= The process by which heat is the emitted as energy as electromagnetic waves.

The three modes of heat are : -

  1. Conduction - Conduction is the transfer of heat from hotter part of an object due to collision of it's particles from their positions.Heat transfers to a conduction occurs within solids substances that are in direct contact with each other.
  2. Convection - Convection is the transfer of heat by the movement of particles. Convection is the primary mode of heat transfer in fluids ( liquid and gases ) . This is because the molecules are loosely arranged with space between them , which allow movement.
  3. Radiation - Heat energy can travel in the form of waves ; these waves do not need any medium to travel . The transfer of heat in the form of rays or waves , for which a medium ( particles of any material ) is not required is called radiation.
