Hi,

Your answer :
The European Union (EU) was created with the aim of ending the wars that regularly blew the continent, culminating in the Second World War. From 1950, the European Coal and Steel Community gradually unites the European countries economically and politically in order to guarantee a lasting peace. The six founding countries of this Community are Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The 1950s are dominated by the Cold War between East and West. In Hungary, demonstrations against the communist regime were repressed by Soviet tanks in 1956. In 1957, the Treaty of Rome established the European Economic Community (EEC), or "common market".

1960-1969
A period of economic growth
The 1960s are a good time for the European economy, supported by the abandonment of customs duties in trade between Member States. They also agree to jointly control agricultural production in order to meet the food needs of all. Quite quickly, some agricultural products become even surplus. The month of May 1968 became famous for student uprisings in Paris, and many changes in society and behaviors are now associated with the "Generation 68".

1970-1979
An expanding Community: the first enlargement
Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom joined the European Union on 1 January 1973, bringing the number of Member States to nine. The brief but violent Israeli-Arab war of October 1973 provokes an energy crisis which weakens the European economy. The last right-wing dictatorships in Europe end with the overthrow of the Salazar regime in Portugal in 1974 and the death of General Franco in Spain in 1975. The EU begins to transfer considerable sums through its regional policy in order to create jobs and infrastructure in the poorest regions. The European Parliament is increasing its influence on European affairs and for the first time, in 1979, deputies are elected by direct universal suffrage. The fight against pollution intensified in the 1970s. The EU adopted laws protecting the environment and introduced the concept of "pollution".

Good bye ;)
