Hi there,
Hybridization is the mixing of two orbitals with the same energy levels to give a new type of orbital.
there are three types of hybridization :
1. sp hybridization - sp hybridization involves one 's' and one 'p' orbital of equal energy to form a new hybrid orbital. The formed Sp orbital is maintained at 180 degrees. e.g Beryllium chloride
2. sp² hybridization - it involves mixing of one 's' orbital and two 'p' orbitals of equal energy to form a new hybrid orbital. It is formed in trigonal symmetry with bond angle 120 degrees. e.g Ethylene
3. sp³ hybridization - it involves mixing of one 's' orbital and three ‘p’ orbitals of equal energy to form a new hybrid orbital which is formed in tetrahedral symmetry with bond angle 109.28 degrees. e.g Ethane
Hope it helps you.
