Major landforms on land include alluvial fans and deltas, and sand dunes on river beds or in deserts. They also include beach ridges. Those in marine conditions, formed by a variety of currents, include tidal dunes, tidal sand ridges, shallow marine seabed dunes (formed by longshore drift driven by waves) and deep sea fans. Waves are created by wind blowing across the sea surface, so in some ways wind is responsible for many submarine sedimentary features, although not those due to tidal, contourite or turbidity currents.
