Producers, produce or manufacture goods and use the services of intermediaries to ensure these goods reach consumers. The parties or involved in this distribution channel are called as "Middlemen". There are two major parties who assist in this flow of goods. They are:
1) Wholesalers: Purchases goods from producers in bulk quantity, at discounted prices and sells them in smaller quantities to a retailer or directly to consumers.
2) Retailers: Purchases goods generally from a wholesaler and sells it to the consumer in small quantities.
There are also middlemen such as agents, distributors, brokers etc who facilitate and assist in various other functions such as transportation, marketing etc.
