Problems in construction of large dams are:
1.They wipe out flora and fauna species.
2.Flooding of huge area around it takes place, which causes destruction of wetlands, forests, farmland and displacement of whole settlement.
3.There are also chances of increase in earthquake or natural disaster.
4.They have caused damaged to cultural site by submerging of cultural resources like shrines, buildings, artifacts, burial sites, and sacred landscapes.
Examples:
1.Three Gorges dam of China is a large dam.It is causing various environmental problems like sedimentation and erosion due to which increased chances of flooding taking place.
2.It has become a frequent site of natural disaster,Earthquake and landslide.
3.A good amount of waste water discharged into the river remain stagnant due to reservoir, left water looking dirty and polluted.
4.The forest area has been reduced to 10 per cent from 20 per cent.

Similar problems are faced by Narmada Valley dam and other big dams in India
