It is a form of asexual reproduction in plant...new individuals arise without production of seeds or spores..ex: bulbs, tubers, leaves
in higher plants vegetative propagation may be natural or artificial..
leaves : in bryophyllum small plants grow at the edge of leaves..
stems : aerial weak stems like runners and stolons, when they touch the ground, give off adventitious roots. when the connection with the parent plant is broken, the stem portion with the adventitious roots develops into an independent plant
(1) Cutting : plants grow individually when a piece of parent plant having bud is cut off from the existing plant. the lower part of this cutting is burried in moist soil. after a few days the cut parts having buds grow as an individual plant after developing roots..ex: rose, hibiscus
(2) Layering : stems that form roots while still attached to the parent plant are called layers..propagating plants in this method is known as layering
(3) Grafting : is a technique of inserting a part of one plant in such a way that the two will unite and continue their growth..
