Given that License plate numbers have 3 letters, followed by 2 digits.

Given that First letter can either be M or D only.

So,

The first letter can be arranged in 2 ways(M or D).

The 2nd letter and 3rd letter can be selected from 26 choices of letters.

So, the number of different combinations of 2 letters is 26 * 26.

Now,

We have to consider the 2 digits.

There are 9 possibilities for the 1st digit.

There are 9 possibilities for the 2nd digit.

So, the number of different combinations of 2 digits is 9 * 9.

Therefore for a license plate which has 3 letters, followed by 2 digits, there are:

2 * 26 * 26 *  9 * 9

109512.

Hope this helps!
