When our ground vibrate in a frequency then we call it earth quake.

Earth Quake measure as the vibration measure. But in case of frequency we call it Hz and for earth Quake we call MAGNITUDE.

UPTO 6 or more then it (magnitude) we call the earth Quake is minor

An earthquake  is a shake of the ground resulting from the sudden release of energy accumulated by the stresses exerted on the rocks. This release of energy is made by breaking along a fault, usually pre-existing. More rare are the earthquakes due to volcanic activity or artificial origin (explosions for example). The location of the rocks at depth is called the focus, the projection of the focus on the surface is the epicenter of the earthquake. The movement of the rocks near the focus produces elastic vibrations which propagate, in the form of seismic wave trains, around and across the globe. It also produces heat by friction, sometimes melting the rocks along the fault (pseudotachylites).

Many earthquakes occur every day but most are not felt by humans. Approximately one hundred thousand earthquakes are recorded every year on the planet. The most powerful of these are among the most destructive natural disasters. The vast majority of earthquakes occur at the boundary between the tectonic plates (earthquakes) of the earth, but there may also be earthquakes inside the plates.

The science that studies these phenomena is seismology (practiced by seismologists) and the main measuring instrument is the seismograph (which produces seismograms). The acquisition and the recording of the signal are obtained in a seismic station gathering, besides the sensors themselves, recorders, digitizes and GPS antennas, for the geographical positioning and the time.

Earthquakes are measured by:
1. Magnitude scale of the moment
2. Modified Metallica Intensity Scale
3. Seismic intensity scale

The Earthquakes can be minor upto 5 magnitide or more than 6.
