The to-and-fro motion or the back and forth movement of a body at regular intervals of time is called as periodic motion.
The motion of earth around the sun, movements of the hands of the clock etc are referred to as periodic motion, as all these motions occurs itself at regular intervals of time.
The best example for periodic motion is the motion in a pendulum, in which the bob connected to the string makes oscillations that show periodic motion.
