Amitosis is one of the three ways of cell division. Others are mitosis and meiosis.

In amitosis, the cell division starts with a constriction (or cleavage) in the cell boundary/wall. It develops. There is no division of structures or formation of chromosomes.  Then the cytoplasm liquid is divided into two parts.

Amitosis is found mainly in unicellular prokaryotic plants only. After the initial formation of the constriction, the division occurs in two more stages. The division of the nucleus and the division of the cytoplasm.

The nucleus elongates and becomes like a dum bell. Then it gets cut in the middle. The cytoplasm fluid is just separated by the deepened constriction.

Amitosis is a quantitative division. The daughter cells both are identical in structure and shape.
