Water which is either free or has lower concentrations of Various ions like Mg2+ ,CaCO3, etc.
It can form lather with the soap so it is also used with the soaps to clean clothes.

Soft water naturally occurs when rainfall and drainage basin of rivers are formed of hard rock . Soft water has relatively low concentration of calcium carbonate and other ions . The water that lathers with soap easily is called soft water .It mostly come from peat or igneous rock
