copper wire is a very good conductor of electricity. The purpose of a fuse is to obstruct hight voltage current flow that can damage the appliances we use by breaking or disconnecting a circuit. A copper wire being a good conductor will allow the flow of high voltage current which doesn't serve the purpose. Thus instead of copper we must use a material of a little higher resistance which may melt and disconnect the circuit if high voltage current flows.
