because pressure is inversely proportional to the area ..so to reduce the area /point if contact between nail n surface it has a pointed tip... hence to increase the pressure an the the nail can be easily embedded in the surface ..

To increase the pressure with which it gets embedded we have to decrease the area of contact, so that there is a large pressure/force on the tip of the nail,so that it goes easier to the surface
