a solution of salt water is considiered a mixture and not a compound because when salt is added in a water it do not combine to form any new compounds & not undergo any chemical change but only dissociating into ions but only mix together while retaining their identities.
NaCl + H2O → Na+ + Cl- + H+ +OH
NaCl + H2O → Na+ + Cl- + H+ +OH
