Acidity is caused by excess formation of acid in stomach, since, antacid tablets contains Al(OH)3 and Magnesium hydroxide which are basic in nature are taken so to neutralize the effect of acid and to give us relief.

These ingredients are basic in nature. Excessive acids in stomach cause tremendous pain in stomach.
When antacid tablet is consumed, the base elements in the tablet neutralizes after mixing with acid. It gives relief.
