antibiotics works in two different ways. they either blocks the cell wall formation or else stop them from multiplying .since virus don't have their cell wall and cellular machinery so the antibiotics are not effective against virus..

Bacteria have cell wall. antibiotics block the cell formation of bacteria and break the cell wall and stop their growth.
Virus don't have cell wall that's why antibiotics do not work against viruses.
