Explain why can alkali and alkaline earth metals not be obtained by chemical reduction method

Alkali and alkaline earth metals cannot be obtained by chemical reduction methods because they are very strong reducing agent and highly reactive metals. Because of this they can not be reduced by any other substance very easily.

Alkali and alkaline earth metals are themselves strong reducing agents and hence cannot be extracted by reduction of their oxides and alkaline earth metals. (ii) Alkali metals being highly electropositive cannot be displaced from the aqueous solutions of their salts by other metal.
