Diatomic nitrogen is considered chemically inert because its valency is satisfied due to the triple bond between two atoms and therefore it does not react

Diatomic nitrogen is considered to be chemically inert because in \mathsf{N_2} molecule, each shell is fully filled.

Valence shell has 8 electrons and it occupy the near electronic configuration of Neon ( Ne ) which is chemically inert.

That's why diatomic molecule is chemically inert.
