Dogs have a lesser number of sweat glands as compared to humans and most of their sweat glands are present at their paws so they find it difficult yo loose heat.ultimately they pant to regulate the temperature of their body.the panting cools them and even their blood that flows off to the head .

dogs do not sweat on skin as we humans do.dogs pant during summer to redce their internal temperature.when dogs pant, the larger surface area of the tongue exposed to air,the water molecules in their tongue gets evaporated.as we all know evaporation is a cooling process , it cools down the dog's body.
