Explain why exhaled air contains less oxygen than inhaled air?

Because the air inhaled is used up by our body cells for respiration.. Therefore exhaled air contains less oxygen than inhaled air because it has more of carbon dioxide which is one of the by products of respiration...

When we inhale air ...we take *Oxygen* from the outside and therefore the inhaled air is abundant in oxygen .... now when we exhale that air ... it is abundant in carbon dioxide because the oxygen component of that air is used up in oxygenation of blood .

Thus.....

*exhaled air contains less oxygen than inhaled air*
